pc house keeping help

i have this p4 2.8
win xp
hp media center
i had this pc for about 4 years now i have put it tru **** and still working
with a box fan for cooling lol
is runing a bit slow latley and i know i need major software repair

what r the best programs u guys can rec me for keeping it runin smooth
and with minimal errors
since i'm gona be keeping this as a storage unit wen i build my new one

Well first off I would recommend getting some Antivirus (if you don't already have one).

Secondly, you can do some regular maintenance such as Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag, both of which are built into Windows

Thirdly, you can download some freely available software to help clean up unwanted or unnecessary files. CCleaner, HijackThis and Adaware are all good ones.

Defragmenting is a good idea. But use a program called, O&O Defrag. It does a better job, than the Window's defragmenting program.

that and with the big box fan (i got one too)dust builds up quick, so clean the dust out, help it run cooler, should fix some things.
