password problems

on a relatives computer, which had its password removed so as to boot straight to the desktop on windows xp pro the password has expired. this only leaves me with the option of changing the password. you know the password that doesn't exist thanks microsoft. any suggestions?

Yes, boot into safe mode logon as the admin account then go into the control panel>users and reset it there

i already tried that. it wouldn't work for some weird reason. thanks for the reply i fixed it though. not entirely sure how but i did
