Default page cannot be dispalyed after installing sp2

I also have been going through some probems after insatlling sp2 adn what i found out is that one of the main problem that is
"page cannot be displayed after installing sp2 "
so i tried some steps a bit of research ,and it helped ,
try these steps out :
"The page cannot be displayed" after installing SP2-based computer.
cause :
This problem occurs because installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional enables the Windows Firewall. By default, the Windows Firewall blocks most incoming traffic, including the HTTP protocol and the HTTPS protocol. The HTTP protocol and the HTTPS protocol are used to access a Web site.

Note: Windows Firewall replaces Internet Connection Firewall. Internet Connection Firewall is included with Windows XP.
To solve this problem ,follow this steps
1.)Windows XP Service Pack 2 - New Winsock NETSH commands (try this first)

Winsock now has the ability to self-heal after a user uninstalls such an LSP. Two new Netsh commands are available in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

• netsh winsock reset catalog

This command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. This can be useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network connectivity. While use of this command can restore network connectivity, it should be used with care because any previously-installed LSPs will need to be re-installed.
2.) Disable windows firewall.
3.) Delete cookies ,delete temporary internet files.
4.) Create a new user profile and try to acess internet .
This should resovle the issue ,but if not just try these steps .
5.) If you have norton anti virus installed in your system , disable the norton firewall.
6.)click on start-run -cmd -regsvr32 softpub.dll . Register the file.
7.)Configure Windows Firewall to enable HTTP traffic
Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
On the Exceptions tab, click Add Port.
In the Name box, type HTTP. In the Port box, type 80.
Note This procedure enables HTTP traffic. If you also require HTTPS traffic for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) sites, repeat these steps, but type HTTPS in the Name box, and then type 443 in the Port box.
8.)Configure network settings
Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
On the Advanced tab under Network Connection Settings, click your network connection, and then click Settings.
On the Services tab, click Web Server (HTTP), and then click OK.
Note If you must also enable HTTPS traffic for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) sites, click both Secure Web Server (HTTPS) and Web Server (HTTP).

some notes on win xp sp2

After installing Windows XP SP2, the system performance is degraded or the system randomly locks up.
In this case, you should troubleshoot performance issues the way you normally would, including troubleshooting with MSCONFIG, checking for spyware and viruses, and performing any other troubleshooting that DSN recommends. On some portable systems, the customer may report that the CPU speed as reported in System Properties is much lower when running on battery after installing SP2. This is normal -- Windows is throttling down the processor when it is not being heavily used in order to conserve power.
sorry for the wrong attachment try this
2: After installing Windows XP SP2, Outlook Express will not display certain attachments.
This behavior is by design to help protect the system from mass-emailing worms. See <> for more information

3: After installing Windows XP SP2, the Windows Security Center says that it cannot determine the status of the installed antivirus or firewall software.
Most anti-virus and firewall software needs an update before Windows Security Center will detect it and display its status correctly. For Norton and McAfee, simply have the customer update the software using its built-in features (Live Update for Norton, and the Security Center Updates for McAfee). For third-party software, have the customer refer to the documentation for that software to see how to make it work with SP2.

4: After installing Windows XP SP2, certain chat programs and games may no longer function correctly.
If the chat program or game is designed to listen for incoming connections, then the Windows Firewall may block those connections. To allow those programs to work, you will need to do one of the following:
Create an exception for that program. Details on how to do that are available here: <> and here: <>
If another firewall program is in use (such as the Norton Personal Firewall or the McAfee Personal Firewall), then disable the Windows Firewall. The customer should only have one firewall running at any given time.

In addition, there have also been instances of people recommending uninstalling Windows XP SP2 due to stability concerns, often stating that they should wait until SP2 is "more stable" to install. SP2 has already undergone more testing then any service pack for any operating system that Microsoft has released. The only circumstance in which someone should advise against installing SP2 is if it is known to conflict with an application or driver that has been installed, and even then we should advise that the customer regularly check with the vendors of those programs to see if they have updated their software to work with SP2.
