Operating system all messed up, don't know if I should reformat or try to fix..

Hello all..again,

My operating system is acting up, i recently did a scan with AVG Anti-virus and it detected the Java/Byte Verify trojan or virus. Anyways, since then it takes a long time for the GUI to kicked in and when it does I don't have access to some my applets.

When i click on the Start menu, and then go to all programs, nothing happens, also nothing is showing up in my add/remove programs. I can still browse the Internet but with Mozilla Firefox which is good I guess. I can still browse also with Internet Explorer but can't type inside any boxes or anything like that.

Also, I don't have file menu in explorer, I'm thinking of just backing up my data files that i need for work and reformatting, or can someone help?

you seem to have a lot of problems that a quick reformat can fix. you can probably format you pc and install windows quicker than fixin it
