Default old game new OS: problem

old game made way before winxp came out wont work on my computer. the installer setup runs fine, then stops at 99%
any way to fix this?
specifically the game is heroes three of might and magic. fun game. old FAVORITE of mine. kinda got me into comps along with starcraft bw.

NEED way to fix this. must play it... right now or will explode.

if it stops at 99 percent it must be because the cd is scratched or dirty. Compability problems occur when you try to execute the application
