ok my friend is trying to put together a sort of old computer. it had windows 98 but had so much crud we just formatted the drive. it doesnt have a partition anymore. he said he needs a disk to create a new partition on the hd. is this true and if it is where can he get one. btw were trying to load windows xp on it now.

You can create a new partition with the XP disc. Boot from the disc and it will ask you if u want to create a partition.

You can also use a Win98 boot floppy to make a partitions using the FDISK command. Download: www.bootdisk.com

but the problem is that when we try to boot from cd it reads it but doesnt accept it as a way to boot. when we try floppy it says remove all media disks and restart.

Make sure the BIOS is configured correctly. It should be set to boot from the CD or floppy.

If CD won't work you can get the XP bootdisks from the same website. The floppy you are using might be corrupted. You can try get a new one.

the problem is that its boots in this order: a: e: (cd drive) c:

it doesnt even read the two a and e drives and gos to c then asks for a boot disk and so on.

ok we got it to work. we set the cd to boot first (like before) but we used a new cd and it worked. thanx for the help.
