office autosave not working

Office 2003, autosave feature not working. I have it set to 2 minutes, but it doesn't save at all. What am I missing here? Doesn't work with new files or existing files opened for editing. Only manual save works.

do you get any form of an error?
Check your event log for application error messages and see if anything is there.

Nope. No errors. It just doesn't save. Weird.
