Default OCR software

Is there a good OCR software around, i tried to just scanthis newspaper clipping which has four columns, and not only were the characters messed up, but also the four columns had been bmerged into two columns

You mean Optical Character Recognition? Usually the characters will not be recognised if they are messed up.

the print(characters) on the newspaper were fine, it was just that the OCR program messed them up. it also merged four columns into 2, that means it can't really interpret spaces that well.
