Hi guys,

First off, sorry if this has already been covered, I am having trouble with the search feature, but I have scanned google and not found a solution that either works or is intelligable to me.

about a month ago a problem started that has been locking up my machine and stopping me from using some applications.

When I try to open them I get the following message.

NVTDM has encountered a system error
NVTDM has encountered a system error c0h choose 'close' to terminate the application.

This occurs on running command.com and a couple of other apps, however, I can run from safe mode.

I am running windows XP service pack 3. I am heading for a full format and reinstallatition, unless someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance peeps.

Have you tried a repair install? The process is for a 16 bit Virtual Machine. So are these old apps you are trying to run?

Hi, I'll give the repair install a go, I think I found a guide about how to do one.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

?

The apps aren't really that old, they are just specialist apps created by a very small software house using god knows what programming language and database engines.

I'll try get my way through a repair and report back after the weekend. Thanks!

Hello again,

I couldn't run the repair because my windows disk does not provide a repair option. However I was able to resolve this problem.

The solution for me was that I got a copy of Norton 360 and ran the registry cleanup. This did the job and everything seems to be running smoothly again.
