I am brand new to this forum, as well as computer science and web design in general.
I'm teaching myself HTML and I'm doing my HTML in Notepad. The book I'm using instructs me to save files with the extension of ".htm" so that I can check to see what my HTML looks like in a web browser. Obvious stuff.
This worked well until I recently had to re-install my entire operating system due to a crash.
Now, when I save a Notepad file with the ".htm" extension, it gets saved like this:
"filename.htm.txt"
In other words, my effort to save it as a htm file to be viewed in a web browser simply becomes part of the file name. It does nothing to change the format of the file itself, so I cannot view my HTML in a browser.
How can I adjust my settings to allow me to define the extension of a file?
