"not engough memory" while using internet

Recently my friend started getting this message ("not enough memory available") when he tries to play online card games on AOL. The thing is, that can't possibly be true, because he has 128MB ram, and nothing else exept for AOL open. And if he keeps trying, he can get to the "card table" and play without any further problems....
I think it must be some other problem that gets interpreted by Windows/IE as a memory problem.
He has Windows98 and IE5.5
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

i'd try doing a ctr-alt-del and see if there is other software running taking up memory, aka spyware

or just get rid of aol
