Default Norton Internet Security 2002 & svchost

Hi Everybody.
My PC is P4 1.6GHz, OS WIN2K Pro, running NIS2002, with lots of installed applications that may be connected in the background to the Internet (e.g.: Outlook, KaZaA, eMule, MMJB, WMP, QTP, RealOne, NIS, FixIt, PowerDesk, etc.).
While browsing online I very frequently get a warning popup (please see attached picture) from NIS that "A remote system is attempting to access a generic process - svchost.exe on my computer" with a recommendation to "PERMIT" the access.
During long sessions I tried to "PERMIT" or to "BLOCK" such accesses separately without any visible effect.
I wonder if anybody encountered such events and if it would be OK to permanently "PERMIT" or "BLOCK" these attempts.
Thanks for your help.

I'd block it...It might be that blaster worm???

Check your hard drive for mblast.exe..

yeah better check first,..but most probably its not,..been allowing it to access the net since my system's first boot.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...1&PA=1&SD=HSCH

This is taken from-http://www.answersthatwork.com/

"Windows 2000/XP only. SVCHOST is a generic process which acts as a host for other processes running from DLLs. Depending on the configuration of your system there may be more than one instance of SVCHOST showing in the Task List.

Recommendation :
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone"

It seems you have to allow access, or you can't go online (broadband), But not to act as server.

again,..its better to be sure...so check first for viruses
