Norton AV and Windows Messenger?

Hello all, can anyone tell me if Norton AV uses the windows messenger service? I currently have Norton AV 2005 and disabled the messenger service, yet several times Norton has needed to install updates and reboot and messenger popped back up on my taskbar. Do I need to leave it enabled? And if I do require having it enabled, is there any easy way to hide it on my taskbar?

Any info would be appreciated

it dont use it. you ca remove it in the add/remove programs, add/remove windows componenets...

Thanks, Warez. Is there any other reason to keep it on? It looks like it may be a risk just keeping it around from reading up on certain trojans/worms/viruses etc.

I use it from time to time, if you dont use it go ahead and remove it.
