Default noob question... what's Windows x64?

I haven't look into computer stuff for a long time, and I am missing out on a lot of stuff. First off all, what's Windows x64? what's advantages of 64-bits OS? 2nd, what computers can install it? Is it only with AMD CPU? or Intel processors too?

well you won't really get the full power out of a 64 bit processor unless you wait for windows vista, or run linux... windows programs aren't really written for the 64bit architecture because it isn't in as high of a demand right now
