I wiped my hard drive clean the other day and put windows xp pro with s/pack 1 on it, and now I can't hear any sound from anything windows itself, cd, ect. I checked the sounds and audio devices in the control panel and it's grayed out, like I have no sound card. I went in device manager to see if there was any errors or driver conflicts, but everything seemed ok, except I don't see my sound card, I only see Legacy drivers, video codecs, audio codecs, ect. All I did was a clean install of windows xp pro service pack 1. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

you must look at the sound card and read the make/ model. that go to google.com and search for the website of manufacturer and download drivers from there.

- Make sure the card is plugged in properly.
- Have XP detect the hardware by using the "add new hardware" function from the control panel
Is it by chance an ISA sound card?

Hoping the card is detected you then should be able to see it in the device manager ready or atleast ready for you to find drivers for
