I want to install a second OS on my hard drive, just to try it out.
Can it be installed without formatting the drive so I don't have to install everything again?
What is the best way to do it all?
Cheers guyz.

If you're a non-techie user.
Use the software Partitionmagic
THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS.
++ You'll fall in love with the software for what it has to offer.

Yes...using partition magic, you can creat another partiiton and then install the other operating system in that partition.

Yes, you could install second OS to a clean partition. Use partition manager, shrink your partition and create new one. So you'll save your first OS and other data. Later you could do partition selector between operation system.
I use this software to create partitions on my HDD. Now I have good organized HDD with separate partitions for my OS, apps and other needed data.
It has convenient and intuitive windows wizard.
