Guys, those in the now, if you can take a guess, How much longer will 32bit computers be around and be useful, supported etc? I am trying to justify buying one yesterday?

thx

32 Bit systems will be supported and around as long as companies like Microsoft can justify the continued existance of those OS's. It was rumored that Vista was going to be the last 32 Bit OS. That was proven wrong with the emergence of 32 Bit Win7. There is no word right now if there will be a 32 Bit Win8. But as far as servers are concerned there is no such thing as 32 Bit anymore. With 4GB of RAM becoming the norm and that being the upper most limit to 32 Bit if systems start showing more promise and most cost effectiveness with 6GB or more RAM than 32 Bit will die out and not be around past Win7.

I dont understand why people would want to limit themselves to 32 Bit anymore. Even with a prebuilt machine you can get 64 Bit installed and it servers far more future proofing than 32 Bit ever would at this point in time. Every program runs the same and you can do much more and expand much more with 64 Bit.

You should know better than to ask such an open ended question to try and justify a purchase. As it can be fought either way all day and night just like the OS X vs Windows talks can. We arent going to try and make you feel better about your purchase. The only thing we can say, get the 64 Bit version installed. It will run on anything that meets the requirements. So your the only one standing in the way, not the machine, unless it is a netbook.
