Networking Windows & Macs

Hello,

I would like to know how to network my iMac running OSX10.2.4
with my Compaq Presario running winows XP. Both these computers are connected to a router.
I I have no problem looking at and copying files from the Windows XP computer, but what I want to know is how do I go from Windows to mac? Can I run programs on the other computer ( mac or win ) from another computer?If anyone can direct me to some links about this topic, or give me some tips on this issue, that would be great.
