Network transfer/speed monitor?

So I've just built a new machine, and put Windows on it. I've been using Linux for the past 5+ years probably, and always liked having the ability to monitor what my system is doing. Anyway, I was wondering if any one new of something that would show the upload and download speeds of my nic, preferably in the taskbar? I found some thing called CoolMon, but it was completely dreadful.

I dont know about having a third party app, but if you press control alt delete you can click on the networking tab and it shoiws you. Also microsoft has a built in program called network monitor. Google it and you should be able to find something
