net phones

hi, i need a net phone. yet im confused there are so many that say there free but arenÂ’t and worse on some you can only call other net phones on there network. some of the ones that iv found that seem good are:
Skype

GloPhone

firefly

PC-Telephone

TalkFree PC to Phone Dialer
so... did i find a phone or a lode of crap?

If you have access to Time Warner cable services, get the VoIP phone. Roadrunner is NOT REQUIRED. its $39.99/month for unlimited local and long distance. you can call regular phones and VoIp phones. It sounds pretty much like a regular phone. You will also get a battery for your VoIP modem for when the power goes out, you get like 1 hour talk time. and like 5 hours stand by.
