Why does Nero 8.3.6 in XPpro/SP3/IE7 fail to open?

Click Nero StartSmart. The icon revolves but then stops and cpu runs flat out and computer is locked. Why? Tried Diagnostic Start and Nero appears satisfactorily. Nero help is no help so far.

I have un-installed and re-installed several times. All other programs on my system are OK

Use Norton a/v and Windows firewall

Could be a conflict with Norton. I would suggest removing it with Revo Uninstaller. Then try reinstalling it.

Have you checked that you have the most recent version of Java? I'm pretty sure Nero is using Java. I'd suggest to fully update your Java.

I got sick of nero 8 and it's many crashes and I went back to stable nero 7

Does it work if you just open nero burning rom? I always had issues with nero smartstart and just gave up on it and go through the regular burning rom.

with the exception of that stupid nero scout, 7 is stable

So, here's how you remove it:
Go to start > run and type:

regsvr32 /u
“%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll”
