Need to recover data(Windows doesn't boot)

What are some good tools to recover data? Windows does not boot and I need to recover the data before reformatting the machine. I would like to save the data to a CD-R, USB drive, or copy it to another machine on the network.

KNOPPIX - Live Linux Filesystem On CD

Boot with the CD, You can then see all your partitions....

Copy to USB hard drive....
