Need help with an unknown extention name

Hi all,
iv just had a go at this and the only conclusion i have com up with is that these files are corrupeted, or the owner (mum) has uninstalled the software needed to view it. They were originally text documents made in Works 02 and now she is using Word XP and its not letting me view any of them. It just keeps comming out as code, even when i try the different decrypters its still not readable. Unicode makes it about 15% decoded. The extention name is .WPS, i want these to be word documents. can anyone help me?

It doesnt support XP, is .WPS a microsoft works extention?

go open it back up in the machine that you have MS works (wps stand for works processing something, I forget the last part) on. then hit file, save.

save it as a word document file (.doc).

some versions of office 2003 can recognize it, but some can't.

There is an word processor program WPS office. They use the wps as the extension name for file.

yes, but it more than likely that he is using a ms works document
