you don't have any kind of weird errors on boot up right ?
Its letting you login fine ?
How about hardware profiles ? do you have more than one ?

only one profile and i can login fine!
is there actually no application that can monitor a port which is already being used?!

I've had some computers that had SP2 I had work on, that just screwed up the connections of the telephone modem. I usually reinstall sp1 (in 1 case I reinstall win 98) and the problem would go away.

but Mehdi, you have not answered this question. did you enable your telephone modem in the bios? as much as I read through this post, this seem like this is your problem.

The problem is that the COM3 port uses the same interrupts as other com ports and IRQ's. you can try to find a port sniffer but good luck finding one without spy/adware.

There are a TON of problems with this toshiba internal modem.
If you search "COM3 internal modem issues" and strings like that you will find a bunch of people that are having similar problems like yours.

Eric. i don't get it. what do you mean by enabling modem in bios?
this modem was already working... well before i uninstalled it atleast!
and i have upgraded the bios after this problem! so i don't think there is anything wrong with the bios!
Brady, i know some other people have this same problem! but there must be something that can be done!
or i'd have to either uninstall Sp2 or re format!! (pain in the A**)
