Default need help after a system crash

sorry if this post is somewhere else, but i didn't see one like it.
I recently had a bout with a nasty virus/adware/spyware attack on my computer. I was able to get rid of it, but in the process most of my registry keys had to be deleted or were wiped out by the virus. I have full internet access through IE7, and can download/upload to any website, but all of my other programs (AIM, YAHOO messenger, windows media player) cannot access the internet at all, for streaming video/music, can't sign on, anything. i've downloaded every program and reinstalled them thinking maybe i'd erased critical files or something, but that still did not fix the issue. ANY help would be very much appreciated. anything anyone wants to know in order to help just ask.

thank you very much for the help , I definately had a LOT of garbage on there, however it did not solve my initial problem of full internet access and inaccessability from my programs, which also no includes not being able to update or install my antivirus software... any suggestions? again, any additional info you need, feel free to ask

edit* I just tried to check my firewall settings thinking maybe everything had been blocked by accident, could not access it. "due to an unidentified problem"
