My computer will not shutdown?

I have Windows XP Pro SP2. When I go to shutdown the computer, nothing happens. I have to go to the "processes" and start shutting down all of those little .exe's that are running and then after killing about 15 of them, the computer will eventuall shutdown. Any ideas?

oh interesting sounds like u got a bad virus. download AVG and hijackthis and update them and run them.

Ok, I already run those programs, but I will run them again.

Have you installed anything new lately, software or hardware? Make a list of what your shutting down manually and note which process is the last one you closed before Windows shuts down. Reboot and try shutting down Windows after only closing that particular process. This might help you better track what's going on.
