My computer keeps turning off because the cpu usage is at 100%

My laptop turns itself off, when the cpu usage is at 100% Is this normal, as when my friends computer is at 100% it doesn't turn off.

Is there anyway you can stop this happening, as it does it when i run games, perform virus and regestiry checks etc.

Your computer is overheating most likely

Try to cool it down by reseating the heatsink, and buying a few more case fans

..its a laptop... how exactly is he to buy new case fans???

How old is the laptop? What applications do you have running in your startup items? What OS?

i brought it september 2003. I run windows xp. Nortan Anti Virus, Msn messenger, printer. Its when i run anti virus, or spyware check, anything like that. the cpu goes at 100%

I would try reinstalling windows, than return it if possible and if that's not possible get some canned air to clean it.
