MS-DOS extensions in windows XP

I have tried to google for this information, could not come up with it.

can some one tell me how to
"Hide MS-DOS extensions for the file types that are registered" in windows xp

Open a My Computer window, click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, and make sure the box next to "Hide extensions for known file types" is checked.
