mozilla errors

I've got a PC here. I've been trying to get windows updates through the usual steps using IE. I keep getting a proxy error, but no proxy is present. Now, I've removed spy/ad/mlwr, and virii from PC. (both accounts, using Win XP). So, I thought maybe there was a setting somewhere in IE that wouldn't let me. Anyways, I've installed Mozilla, and hoping it would go around it, but everytime I try and run it, it says it can't connect to the internet using mozilla. So I tried Netscape, just to go on my theory, and it wouldn't even let me install netscape. Does anyone know what the heck is going on with this thing? Use hijackthis, ad, spybot, spysweeper, yadda, yadda, yadda.

first, i would check for inet connectivity by pinging an outside ip address. Then, i would double check my browser connection config.

what proxy error do you get in IE? What happens when you try to install netscape?
