Missing Icons & Taskbar

I belive that I may have gotten a virus from one of those free ecards site. My CA Virus pgm caught it and I quartined it. ran it again and it showed up again. Ran 3rd time and still quartined it. rebooted and windows stated up ok and then all of my Icons and Taskbar was missing. Not able to perform a restore becuase I have no way to launch anything. The Virus name was something like "cualtwil" but I have not been able to find any virus or trojan with this name. Is ther any one out there that can tell me how to restore my system without loseing all of may data? I know the last thing is to re-install windows XP again. Thanks

Can you get into Safe Mode? If so you can launch System Restore from there.

Once you get it restored, go here and use Eset's online scanner.

When I get to safe mode all I get is a black screen no Icons or Taskbar nothing, it just hangs there.
