Default Microsoft Word Alternative?

I was just wondering if there are any free third party word processors out there that can read/write a .doc file. (and, no, I don't want to use wordpad or notepad)

It doesn't have to be fancy, I just want something that can act as word... but not fancy.. lol

Any help is appreciated
