I have here the Link for MSE : Download Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows


Is it ok to run the software even the operating system is windows 8 pro
It only gives me 3 options . its Xp/Visa/7 ..

I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to work on Windows 8 as well. They may have no released a Windows 8 Client yet, but the Windows 7 one will work just as effectively.

No problem. I do find it odd that they haven't listed a Windows 8 version yet!

Doesn't work with windows 8. Windows 8 comes with a stock AV already installed which is similar to MSE.

Oh really? I didn't even notice that in my Windows 8 VM. Just installed Avast! Huh, I'll have to take a look at that.

Windows 8 antivirus (much like Essentials) will disable itself when it detects another antivirus. So if you do not install an antivirus, M$ has you covered or if you decide to install your own, M$ will allow that with out any user input to uninstall

Correct, i mean other AV's work just not MSE because it's an MS product and configured to not install on Windows 8 if another product is installed. I know, i've tried myself not realizing an AV product was already installed.

You could uninstall the stock av and try to install mse.

Can anyone tell me the quality of the AV on Windows 8? How does it compare to MSSE, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, ESet, etc.?
