Mic port resets :(

So every time I start my machine, the port for the mic in the back resets and it acts like there is no mic connected. I usually just take it out and reconnect it and it works perfectly. This happens with Skype, never really tested with any other software that needed the mic. Is there any solution...or better yet, any reason that this may be happening in the first place?

PC - Windows 7 Ultimate
Headset with mic, both jacks (green and pink).

Any other info needed, ask away .

try using the mic with another piece of software to make sure the problem is not skype. if that doesn't work try updating the driver

I don't think this is software driven, as you said, it happens when ever he turns on his system. I'd look at the drivers. See if you see anything in Device Manager when it is "disabled". Might want to check the settings on there, has to be a power saving thing.

Try throughly cleaning the plug and there may be dust, lint or some type of built-up in the port. You should be able to pickup something like this at your local auto parts store. After using it you need to wait a couple of minutes for it to evaporate before starting your computer.
