Same goes for RealPlayer and RealAlternative.

And yes, VLC is pretty much superior for videos and other strange file formats.

i used to use VLC player... and got it again today... a lot of ppl hate it because it has no interface...

that has a bunch of skins to improve it

The way to get WMP11 to recognize your 5.1 system is easy. Go into the control panel and go under sounds. Then go under the sounds and audio device. Click Advance under the Speaker setup. Windows by default only has 2 speakers setup. Choose 5.1 and click apply. Viola. WMP11 will play DVD's and everything else in surround sound.

Umm, I'm not new to Windows. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if it was that simple, thanks.

Also, as I said before, it works in other apps. It's a problem with WMP11 itself.
