media center setup help

ok, i've had media center on vista for a while now, it worked out of the box, but i did something or installed something and screwed it up.

it will play live tv fine, but i cannot set up the guide.
when i set up the guide i get to the stage where it says "download tv setup options" it hangs there forever and dosn't move. if i click cancel it goes to the guide setup and then it restarts media center.

so, what ideas do you guys have
is there a hidden service somewhere that i might have disabled by mistake?

vista 32 bit, 4gb ram

Have you got all the patches and updates? HAve you got your TV signal plugged ito a TV Reciever card in the PC?

yes of course.. i can get live tv, it's the guide that i can't get to work, really strange
