preform a clean install if your willing to. bit time consuming but that will fix it.

what i did is put the disk in... it didn't have a repair option. it had upgrade and new installation. upgrade didn't do it so i the new install after. Now when i start the computer up it asks if i want to use professional or media center... how do I install it from scratch and will i have to back all my files and programs up?

WARNING: this will completely wipe your drive of all information and do a fresh install of windows so back up your data.

back your data up to another hdd or to cd or dvd. when you get to the windows screen, make 2 partitions. this way you won't ever lose your data again

do you want to be in the boat that you are in now? you can easily lose data with one partition. adding a second partition to a freash xp install takes just 2 second to do

When is Windows Vista coming out? I may try that instead.
