What is the maximum amount of CPUs that Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows .NET Standard Server supports in one machine?

Thanx

Desktop is 4, Server is 8, Database Server (Avil. only from Microsoft) is 64. But to find a Mobo that can actually hold 4 is another thing. I have seen 2 but nothing more than that.

But, many single user licences (OEM or Retail) are only for two processors. But that has little to do with windows itself.

Based on what I heard from a Microsoft rep last month, it goes by CPU socket. Therefore, a single dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition w/ Hyperthreading enabled would show up as 4 logical CPUs, but only count 1 towards the total.

You could do, for instance, TWO dual-core Opteron's on regular XP Professional and still have 4 physical cores, and fit under the licensing agreement.
