Hi,

My computer crashed, and restarted, but it restarted under a completely new user account, with admin powers, and my old user account, which was also admin, is locked, I cannot login into this account, but the files and folders still are still in the 'Documents and Settings' folder, I tried the safe mode method of taking control of the account's files and folders, but it doesn't work, I still get 'Access Denied' errors.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or how it could have happened? Thanks.

you need to set the permissions
under the true administrator account, right click on C: and go to security
I think it's under "advanced" but you have to find and click "replace owner"

Are you on XP Pro or Home? With Pro you don't have to boot into safe mode. Also I'm not entirely sure how user permissions would work in Home as I haven't had to use them with Home Edition. In fact I didn't think they were available in XP Home.
