low physical memory

I have a total of 4 gigs(2x2gb) of memory. I went to play a movie and it wouldn't play because of not enough memory. So I open the task manager and sometimes it will get down to 0 mb's of free memory and the cached memory is around 2800. Is this normal? I am running Vista Premium.

What else fo you ahve running? Are you running a 32 Bit OS or 64 Bit?

I had Itunes, WMP, Nero 8, and Firefox open. I don't know if this pertains to the problem but if I am playing a movie using WMP 11 and I close it without stopping the movie, the sound will continue until I open it back up and press the stop button.

Just a few minutes ago, I was browsing the internet when I got a BSOD. I would imagine this has to do with the memory.

I am running 64bit Vista Premium.

Hello,

Start>Right click on Computer>Properties>Advanced Tab>Performance. You will see the setting for the pagefile there. Check and see if you have it enabled.

The box is checked to automatically manage paging file size for all drives. Do I need to change that?

Hello,

You could change it to the max of 4096 if you wish. What does it show for the Auto setting? If it is set for something like 2048 i would adjust it manually to something higher.
