Looking for network messenger software

I'm looking for a one way network messenger program so I can send out network wide (or individual) network notifications. I see a good many of them out there, but something simple and either as cheap as possible or freeware would be wonderful.

Any suggestions?

I've always been fond of the netsend function built into windows NT, 2000, XP, (and I'm assuming vista).

However, so have the spammers on the internet. If your network is behind a good firewall, it wouldn't be a problem. Otherwise you'll get a bunch of annoying messages appearing.
