is there a log of what programs have been run, and when in windows XP home?

you could enable auditing on object access set to success.

gpedit.msc

computer config > windows settings > local policies > audit policies

then view event viewer security logs. Filter for *.exe extension.

Re:

Hello,

I don't think a log exists for programs in Windows XP, unless programs have their own logs or explicitly integrate a log in the Windows XP Event Viewer.

But I don't think users can establish their own logs in Windows XP Home.

It does however have an Event Viewer which logs various activities, accessible in the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

There you can see which users have logged in and out of the system, with a date and time given in the Security Audit Records. All activities related to security all recorded, including successful and failed login attempts.

However, for the application log and system log, only errors are recorded, not all activity.

HiJackThis would be more for detecting spyware/problems or whatever thats running in your system, right?

What/why do you need a log? Is it for security reasons, or something like discovering what other people do on your computer?

:)

You could run a hijackthis like talldude said, and just edit out any of the irrelevant info. It has all the running processes at top.

He could use it too access what programs are running and have others see the running processes without having task manager open or w/e.
