lockup when downloading

My pc locks up when i've had to download . It happens when i'm txfr across either the network or the internet.....I have used a different network card and tried various network cables . It only appears to happen if a long download or when streaming audio from my server.....
Slowing the processor speed does help but still does it ..

I've also noticed that it does it when i leave the pc unused for a while ....i.e. switched on but not used

Can anyone help ?

Yes i have, I have re=installed windows, changed both the graphics card and network card, both came under supicion. I have had the system stripped down to it's bare minimum with all the sound cards etc physically taken out.
I've even replaced the ram with some i had spare.
I am suspecting a processor fault because of the fact that if i slow down the processor speed i only get occasional lock ups.
I am wondering if the proc had been overclocked by the manufacturers p4 2.00ghz...it will run at 1.80.ghz
Is there a way i can test the buses as it could be that.......
