Default locked out of registry

Hey. I'm the system administrator for my computer. When I try to run regedit, it says it has been disabled by my system administrator. I'm running XP. Any help? Whats wrong?

use this script to enable registry editing tools again

http://www.dougknox.com/security/scripts/regtools.vbs

You might have to disabled any antivirus because it will say its harmful but its not.

Authors site is here: http://www.dougknox.com/security/scr...c/regtools.htm

Hope it helps

I know this thread is really old, but I'm having the same problem. I tried using the vbs script, and I got an error that said 'Invalid root in registry key'. I checked the registry with a program called reg3dit.exe, and DisableRegistryTools was there. Why am I getting that error?

it's done by a policy in most cases. This is the KB article describing it.

Yes, thats what the script is supposed to do, but it says the key isn't there when it is.

the key might be slightly different. And the fact that you are bassing that on the return of a VBS script is pretty sad. Do it by hand. If you need another tool, then download a tool called reg.exe from Microsoft. it's a query tool from NT4 days. You run something like reg.exe query HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System
and it will return the values in that key. Then you do an export to a .reg file and edit the dword value from 1 to 0.
it's very simple to do.
Don't give up after 1 try. You have to have more stubbornness than that.
if you need more help, I'll keep an eye out.
