Yea, i know what you mean, my Toshiba Satellite has got a winmodem, and there's only three ways really around tha. get a cable modem (i got one at home not work, aghh!) dual boot, use windows for dialups, or just get an external/pcmcia modem....i'm gonna get a pcmcia modem for my laptop soon, so at work i don't have to use windows, and then i can maybe delete all of windows off of here....
