linux showing up on windows?

i was under the impression that neither o/s could see each other's file system when windows runs NTFS?

yet i have F: w/ 0 bytes in My Computer
F: w/ the same gig amount for my linux but all free space in Computer Managment

nothing of windows shows up in linux.

not concerned since i know what it is...just...want to clear up my question....still new to linux

I believe if you are running NTFS you can see FAT partitions on the same local system but if you are running FAT you cant see NTFS partitions on a local system but only over a network.

Windows can see NTFS, FAT32, FAT16. These are native Windows formates and normally Windows cannot see ext2, ext3, raiser, other linux filesystems. I only know of a plug in that allows you see see NTFS from in Linux but not modify it.

Is your linux partitioned with Virtual FAT ("VFAT")?

you can use paragon mount everything (not free) to access the linux partitions from windows http://www.mount-everything.com/ , linux can read ntfs without issues if you dont see your ntfs partitions then obviously the linux distro your using havnt mounted em automatically so you should do it manually with the mount command from the console, read the help file or ask on some linux forum i dont remember exactly how, linux have full read/write fat32 support and ive heard since kernel 2.6.15 ntfs write support has improved but still experimental , if you want a 100% safe ntfs write support then use captive (free) http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ or paragon ntfs for linux (not free) http://www.ntfs-linux.com/

partitioned it w/ the fedora cd so i have the faintest idea


i'm probably swithin' my linux distro anyway...doesn't support my wireless for laptop....so i'll check whenever i do that.
