ok, operating mandrake 9.2 all installed ok, but... the drivers that came default for my ati radeon 8500dv did not work at all. linux did autodetect it and put drivers on. i edited the xf86config file and could get it working using (ack) VESA... but nothing with the drivers that came with it... this gets better. I downloaded the rpm file from ati for 4.3.0 (the version that came up with the script they had me run) installed it without a hitch, rpm complained about existing vesa drivers ect but i used the rpm -i --force to override it and then ran the other configuration file...fglxconfig... and answered the questions accordingly...restarted x (i did this all in console mode btw) and the screen was a nasty green with some white... after a moment, my monitor shut down signal with a message saying my video card is not configured correctly.

any ideas? i went back to vesa for the time being..but i would love to have my 3d ect going for the card...
