do you have access to another working pc? If so, put virtal pc on it and test your install discs.

The BIOS has very limited settings,its set up OK,
HDD is set to auto.
I used the same XP disk on a Compaq 700 a few days ago with no issues.

I was getting similar errors on the original hard Drive,when that drive was tested in BIOS it returned ;Fail , thats why I replaced it.
This new one passed in the bios test.

How'd the memory test turn out, or have you tried it yet?

bad memory can sometimes make a hdd look bad

Just ran Memtest86 v3.4
Pass 0%
Test 10%

under errors it has 77

Unexpected Interrupt-Halting

Is guess its the memory?

Yes thats it!

I removed one stick of ram and did the test with 256M it passed.
I am now loading windows.

This is the first time I had a RAM go bad.
