Laptop power management problems.

Recently, what seems like out of the blue, my laptop's power saving schemes got all messed up. I usually have it so that it never goes into standby or never turns off the monitor or the hard disks and when I close the lid, it does nothing. But recently, it started to go into standby when I close the lid, and it turns off the monitor and hard drives after a certain time. I look into the settings and its configured to something I didn't not configure it. I change everything back and the next time I close my lid, it doesn't go into standby, but when I close my lid again, it goes into standby.

Its like the options I set is a one time ordeal. I did not make any major changes to my OS and I can't figure out what caused this or why my laptop does this.

Any comments or suggestions?
