Here is my situation:

  1. Laptop has HDMI output
  2. Laptop connects to my plasma tv via hdmi
  3. I was watching a movie using VLC
  4. I watched the movie in a dark room without any lights (besides from the tv)
  5. I shut the laptop lid because it was distracted
  6. my tv / laptop started stuttering for a few seconds and the movie plays again
  7. the movie is then all staticy green color-ish
  8. i had to close vlc then re-open it before it started working fine
How do I change my laptop's settings so that whenever I close my lid, it won't do anything that will affect my performance?

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

Start > Control Panel > Power Settings > Set to whatever power plan you want and change the settings > Set both options to Never on next screen > Change Advanced Power Settings > the option should be in there somewhere to control what it does when you close the lid, as well as adjusting other performance options.

right now its set to DO nothing and everytime i close the lid it still does the same thing. its been set to "do nothing" by the way.

Any other way? My laptop doesn't turn off or sleep or anything; it just interrupts the current video playing. Basically whenever I close the lid, something happens but I don't know exactly what.
