Keyboard LED's flashing!!! (Some help would be great)

Ok, this started yesterday. Something is causing all three lights (NUM, CAPS and SCROLL lock) to keep flashing rendering my keyboard useless..... The mouse still works but the keyboard doesn't. This has happened to me once before. Unfortunately, not long after that happened to me the first time, my computer wouldnt reboot so I opened up the case to find that the mobo was totally fried... Those little transistors next to the processor socket were burnt up and leaking (got sick when I seen that .) So, now its happening to this one. I fear that the same thing is going to happen again. What is the cause and solution to this stupid, annoying problem? I refuse to let it happen to this mobo (not like I have a choice unless....) BTW, it has taken me around 45 minutes to type this because of it.

EDIT: I somewhat doubt thats its due to overheating because I have an open case and three fans (makes no sense but I do.) However, I do somewhat put a little strain on it because I use heavy programs (FL Studio, VS, Photoshop, Audition and other things...) but not simultaneously. And my processor is not overclocked, although it is very tempting every now and then, but i'm too scared to even try.

Heres a summary just in case:

Well is the keyboard USB? HAve you tried other ports? Have you tried a different keyboard?

Also leaving the case open is not a good idea. The cases are designed with a certain plan. With the case closed is how they are designed for maximum efficency. That will allow for the most air flow and to allow the parts and that to get cool. Leaving the case open defeats the design purpose and will not allow the fans to cool. It would be like having a those 3 fans trying to cool your room on a 90 degree day. Would it work?

So first i would suggest closing the case. Then trying out a different keyboard. Maybe there is a short in this one that is causing it to fry the mobos.
